Exploring the Kinky Side of BDSM

Exploring the Kinky Art of Bondage

Kinky. The word alone either conjures up images of leather-clad women, brandishing whips and prancing around in dimly lit dungeons, or the gimp in the Tarantino flick Pulp Fiction. But, most of all, it makes one wonder, “why would anybody want to go through all that trouble?”

It’s true that men are simple creatures. Most of the time, we know what we think we’d like, and we like what we know…most of the time. Besides, what’s wrong with a good ol’ fashioned horizontal bop session. But, that doesn’t mean men don’t fancy a wholesome kink as well. We’re living in a golden age of weird fetishes. Where we all yearn to be naughty, to do something we shouldn’t, and this is where BDSM comes in.

BDSM Defined

The (quasi) literal definition of the acronym BDSM is, (B)ondage, (D)omination or discipline, (S)adism and (M)asochism. The acronym originated in the early 60s, but BDSM has been practiced since recorded history with varied definitions, each one deviating from the next in both definition and degree of execution.

What is BDSM Really?

In modern times, BDSM is a place where people get to be who they want to be, where the primary binaries of gender don’t really matter. It’s a catch-all amalgam for all those erotic and kinky desires such as bondage, fetishes, role playing and power exchange. But, nothing like what has been depicted in the book (or movie) Fifty Shades of Grey, since the book and the movie was created by someone who has no experience of BDSM and is not even part of the BDSM community. It’s more or less an erotic story that’s been sprinkled with some activities with no real knowledge or respect of the source. The BDSM community has been dealing with common misconceptions such as dominants being abusive and submissives being pathetic, which could not be further from the truth.

On the contrary, the person holding the whip actually uses their position of authority to build up their submissives, while on the other hand, the submissives in a BDSM relationship are actually strong-willed individuals, and often times, accomplished, generous and organized. It’s no wonder many submissives are mostly doctors, lawyers and leaders in business who enjoy the break from being the person in charge all the time.

Why Practice BDSM

While some people might not be able to wrap their mind around why anybody would want to like BDSM, but for those who understand, know that BDSM leads to erotic pain. It’s intense, and it’s sexual in the same way that a sensual massage can be. For men, BDSM offers a way to experience theatrical fantasies of sexual surrender, or an escape from the dreariness and hard work that is life. The BDSM culture calls not only for the self expression of one’s desires, but also for better communication between the two parties involved. In short, BDSM is like foreign art films, or the color orange, or ASMR. If you like it, you just like it, and it’s really hard to explain why.

Ending Note

BDMS is a place where everybody has something in common. You can be whoever you wish to be. Yes, you are kinky, and you are being yourself. So, why not make your kink a great one. Submit to it. Make it fearless. Make it bold, and take it as far as your mind can see without bothering about the judgment of the outside world. Welcome to a darker shade of your sexuality, your own personal sexual self-realization that your psychology professor never told you about.
